Built during the 17C, the town lies at the crossroads of several major tourist routes. It burnt down in 1945, but was later rebuilt on a grid plan around the huge Marktplatz. Also of note are the 17C church with its curious layout - its two naves, set at right-angles, form one of the corners of the Marktplatz - and a carved 12C lectern portraying the Four Apostles. The baptismal fonts, made c. 1100 and adorned with masks and depictions of animals, are also interesting.
