Two sweeping meanders carved out by the Eysach in the western limestone slopes of Swabian Jura make a fine setting for the pretty little fortified town of Haigerloch, famous for its lilacs and cliffs. Originally, the stronghold of the Counts of Haigerloch and Hohenberg, the town was subsequently ruled by the Habsburgs, then the Hohenzollerns in 1497, who gradually transformed the little fort into an imposing castle.
