Schwäbisch Gmünd
The Essential
This former imperial city lies in the Rems Valley, a popular destination for day trippers. The Roman settlement of Gamundia, first mentioned in 782, was granted its town charter by Konrad III (1138-1152) of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. Traditionally, Swäbisch Gmünd was and remains famous for its gold- and silversmith activities.
