A lively town steeped in charm, Tübingen is justly proud of its prestigious university, one of the oldest in Europe, attended by Hölderlin, Melanchthon and Hegel in their time and one of the most renowned of modern-day Germany. The delightful old town boasts half-timbered houses and steep narrow streets and is framed by two hills, the Schlossberg and the Österberg. At the foot of the town, the blue waters of River Neckar skirt the green banks of the town.
