Schloss Bebenhausen

The abbey's former presbytery was transformed into a castle in the early 19C by the last king of Wurtemberg, William II, who took refuge here from 1918 onwards following his abdication. The visit is particularly interesting for the extraordinary way in which this neo-Gothic building adapted to modern life: electricity in each room, a "fully equipped" kitchen, bathrooms with hot running water etc. The highly kitsch decoration adds further charm.
