When to go
Two quite different periods are ideal for a trip to Berlin. The most popular and the sunniest runs from May to September. You can bicycle around the city, relax in its many parks and sip a beer in one of the friendly, open-air Biergärten. On May 1, Myfest, a giant street festival with free concerts and activities, takes place in a good-natured, fun-loving ambience in the Kreuzberg district. During the day, the summer heat sends people to the floating pool moored on the Spree, despite frequent rain showers, and the surrounding terraces seem to be packed from morning till night.
Another good time to explore Berlin is the period from Advent to the New Year. It is cold but the snow-bound streets and joyful mood of the Christmas markets paint a magical picture of Berlin at this time of year.
The city is more subdued in the early spring and autumn, despite a more stable climate.
