Brandenburg
The Essential
Built in the heart of the lake-strewn Havelland, this little town owes its existence to the 14C cloth trade. The Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, remodelled several times, boasts a number of Gothic altarpieces while the double-naved crypt contains a mausoleum to the memory of the clergy murdered by the Nazis. The fine brick-built Church of St Catherine (15C) has a characteristic Gothic ambulatory.
