Clausthal-Zellerfeld
The Essential
Clausthal-Zellerfeld, the old mining capital of the Harz, is an amalgamation of two former municipalities, Clausthal and Zellerfeld. Zellerfeld is home to the Upper Harz Mining Museum, which explains the mining techniques used until the last mine closed in 1931. In Clausthal, the Church of the Holy Spirit is one of the largest wooden churches in Europe.
