Henrichenburg ship lift

The ship lift at Henrichenburg, the only one of its kind in its time, was inaugurated in 1899 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. It carried ships up and down a distance of 14m on the Dortmund-to-Ems canal (1892-1899), which links the Ruhr with the North Sea. The Westphalian museum of Industry demonstrates the operation of the lift and describes the technical, political and economic circumstances of the canal's construction. See the museum boat MS Franz Christian, which illustrates life aboard a barge.
