Bingen

Bingen
The Essential
This small river port was founded by the Romans. Nowadays boats depart from here to the wine-growing hinterland, popular with tourists. Burg Klopp, formerly the fortress of the bishops of Mainz, was destroyed on several occasions, notably in 1689 by Louis XIV's troops. From the terrace there is a fine view over the Binger Loch, between the Hunsrück and the hills of the Rheingau.
