Wittenberg

Wittenberg
The Essential
This small town is mainly famous for its close connection with Martin Luther, who was appointed town preacher. One year after his death (1546), Charles V seized Wittenberg and went to meditate over the tomb of the Reformer. Nowadays, four buildings in the town are UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Schlosskirche (Castle Church), St Mary's Church, the Lutherhaus and Melanchthon House. Every summer, the capital of the Reformation attracts thousands of "pilgrims".
