The museum of Northern Friesland illustrates the evolution of the North German coastline's landscapes as well as that of its inhabitants' lives and culture. Subjects include dyke construction, land reclamation from the sea and the history of the region's major floods, including the storm of 1362. The museum explores the overseas emigration of the inhabitants of Schleswig-Holstein and the town's history, and presents a collection of Friesian paintings.
