Metsovo is admirably situated in a mountain cirque just below the highest road pass in Greece (1 705m), which marks the border between Epirus and Thessaly. It is surrounded by ancient forests of beech and pine trees. The town is not only a summer resort offering the benefits of bracing mountain air but it also transforms into a winter sports centre with ski facilities. Metsovo is famous for its trout, wine and cheese, as well as for its embroidered cloth and carved wood objects.
