Delos

A windswept desert island, once the site of the Aegean's greatest ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site: this is Delos, the home of Apollo, god of beauty and light. In ancient times, the island played a leading commercial and religious role: the whole of the Greek world came through here. As well as theTemple of Apollo , be sure to see theTerrace of the Lions and thetheatre district (2C BC), its houses with mosaics in lively colours. The island is easily reached year round... but has no accommodation.
