The Essential
A splendid village of the Pelion, where the refreshing trickle of an ancient fountain resonates, Milies is a good place for a stopover. Be sure to sample a tirópsomo (bread with cheese), the local speciality. For those interested in history, the Folk Museum has a collection of photos that illustrate the tragic massacre perpetrated here by the Nazis in 1943. Also worth a visit is the library with its incredible collection of 3 000 ancient books, and the Church of the Taxiarches, a beautiful example of the local architecture.
