Geysir, the name of which has come to signify all the world's geysers, once spewed a stream of water and steam 60m to 80m into the air, a phenomenon created by contact with magma inside a rift. It has calmed down since the mid-20C, allowing neighbouring Strokkur top billing with its 20m to 35m jet. A thrilling show.
