At the foot of Stapafell, an imposing 526m hill formed of tufa, the gorgeous hamlet of Arnarstapi enjoys an exceptional view over the south coast of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It used to be a bustling fishing village, as its little port nestled in a rocky creek suggests; mining pumice stone was its main livelihood. Nowadays, it seems to have secured its future as a tourist destination: it is an excellent starting point for exploring Snæfellsjökull National Park.
