The development of Cobh (pronounced Cove) began at the end of the 18C when the port of Cork became the home port for English ships engaged in the American War of Independence, and later in the battles against France. Up until the 1960s, the town was a port of call for the great transatlantic liners. The town's beautiful houses bear witness to its splendid past.
