Crookhaven

Crookhaven
The Essential
It is difficult to imagine that this little village, secluded at the end of one of countless peninsulas, was of great importance in the 18C and 19C. At that time it was a bustling fishing port and a fallback position and supply base for the commercial fleets of the West Indies; the church was built especially for the sailors. At Brow Head, close to Crookhaven, in 1902, Marconi installed the first transatlantic wireless telegraphic station, a few vestiges of which can be seen today.
