Nicely located on the River Blackwater - also known as the Irish Rhine - Mallow is a busy town, with developed agribusiness. Rathduff (16km south) is known for its cheese. Built at the end of the 12C, the castle became the residence of Sir John Norreys, Lord-President of County Munster. From 1730 to 1810, Mallow was a famous spa town. Its male regulars managed to become known as the «Mallow Libertines».
