Inishmaan (Inis Meáin)
Measuring 9km² (3.5mi²), Inishmaan Island drops from a high barren rocky plateau at its northeast end down to a sandy shore. It is the most desolate and least visited island and one of the bedrocks of Gaelic culture. Inishmaan bewitched poet JM Synge who would spend time at Synge's Chair, on the western cliffs. Inishmaan Way (8km/5mi round trip - allow 2hr) is an excellent way to explore the island.
