Inchagoill Island

This island in the centre of Lough Corrib was inhabited by monks from the 5C on. The ruins of two churches remain here, the more interesting of which is the 12C Saints Church, with its magnificent Romanesque portal decorated with head sculptures.

[To visit the island, departure from Oughterard Jun-Sep: daily except Tue noon - then the boat takes you to Cong, where you can visit Ashford Castle village or park, then returns to Oughterard. Departures also from Cong Jun-Sep: 2.45pm (from Ashford Castle if you bought a ticket to the park) or 3pm (Lisloughery Pier) - round trip ticket]
