The Essential
Nestling in the bay of the same name, the industrial port of Dundalk is the seventh largest town in the Republic of Ireland. Founded in the 12C but entirely rebuilt by the Count of Clanbrassil during the Georgian period (17C), the town has retained few sights of interest from its past. However, its lively nightlife makes this a pleasant base from which to explore the surrounding region.
