Located at the mouth of the Colligan, the small port of Dungarvan nestles in the hollow of the bay of the same name. Near the port, Waterford County Museum was built by John, King of England, in 1185. Close by, Dungarven Museum presents the history of this part of County Waterford. On the east bank is the suburb of Abbeyside, which owes its name to a 12C Augustinian abbey, of which there remains a tower and part of the nave.
