Glendalough

Highly recommended
The monastic complex of Glendalough included churches, houses, workshops, a hospital and farm buildings. The 30m/98ft-high 10C round tower is the most striking feature; it was a watchtower and place of refuge. Not much remains of the cathedral, which used to have one of the largest naves in Ireland. St Kevin's church is a stone roofed oratory and the site's finest building.
