The Essential
The harsh geography of the Abruzzo range explains why this region is little visited by tourists. However, the region has retained much of its traditional character, making it an interesting trip for those in search of authentic surroundings. The hamlet of Bominaco lies off the beaten track, 30km south of L'Aquila. The hamlet boasts two beautiful Romanesque churches which are all that remain of a Benedictine monastery destroyed in the 15C.
