At 480m above sea level, splendid Gerace surveys the plain from its vantage point. In a dominant position, the Roman castrum was restored under the Byzantines and the Normans, and its current structure dates from the Aragonese: it is in itself a digest of the city's history. Today, the art of living in this pleasant resort can be sampled in the narrow cobbled streets. It is also home to one of the finest and most original Calabrian cathedrals.
