This small town, dominated by the ruins of its 9C castle and with almost deserted narrow alleyways, has a certain old-fashioned charm. The town is best known for the royal palace built by Charles III of Bourbon about ten kilometres out of town, a huge building complex which Ferdinand IV of Bourbon turned into the symbol of a socialist utopian society in the late 18C.
