Parma Baptistry

Highly recommended
Begun in 1196, the baptistery was created in pink Veronese marble on an octagonal plan, probably by the Parma architect Antelami whose "hand" is recognisable in the sculptures and whose signature figures on the lintel on the north doorway. The interior possesses a remarkable collection of frescoes depicting, among others, the life of Christ. All in all it is one of the most homogenous medieval monuments in northern Italy.

Our reports

A gourmet stroll in Parma

The town of Verdi and Toscanini is to be savoured in small doses, like an operatic aria, or rather like a glass of nicely chilled Lambrusco served on the terrace of a trattoria... Parma, with all due respect to Milan which would gladly pinch its title, remains THE gastronomic capital of Italy.
