The layout of the main square was designed by Bernini in 1664. The palace on the left became the property of the Chigi banking family in the 17C, while, on the right, the church of Santa Maria dell'Assunzione is flanked by elegant two porticoes. In addition to Baroque edifices, Ariccia is also renowned for its roast suckling pig (porchetta), which is celebrated on the first Sunday of September.
