Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II

Two streets head off from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of which leads to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. This busy square is brought to life by the large market on Via Principe Amedeo; the surrounding district is home to all sorts of Asian shops (from the Far East in Via Pr. Eugenio and from India and Pakistan around the market itself). In the garden, the Roman ruins were once part of a 3C monumental fountain adorned with the "Trophies of Marius".
