Ariccia's small historical centre, squeezed between two lakes - Lago Albano and Lago di Nemi, boasts some real Baroque gems. The layout of the central square was designed by Bernini (1664). The palace on the left became the property of the Chigi banking family in the 17C. The church, Santa Maria dell'Assunzione, is flanked by two elegant porticoes. Ariccia is also renowned for its speciality of roast suckling pig (porchetta), which is celebrated in late August-early September.
