The museum has one of the most prestigious collections of Oriental art in Europe, which was collected by Edoardo Chiossone (1833-98), the Genoese painter and engraver who lived in Japan for 23 years. The display includes Buddhist sculptures, suits of armour, ivory pieces and lacquerware, as well as the prestigious Ukiyo-e Collection of 17C prints by Harunobu, Utamaro, Hiroshige and Hokusai. The venue hosts events related to Japanese culture and traditional holidays.
