Italy's premier port is an immense maritime complex extending over almost 30km from Piazza Caricamento. To the west, the Genova lighthouse marks the entrance to the modern port of Sampierdarena, hemmed in by the skyscrapers of the new business district. Now a focal point of city life, the old port (Porto Antico) to the east is dominated by the Bigo, the work of Renzo Piano. This metallic structure with a panoramic lift offers a beautiful view over the city.
