When to go
Genoa and its wealth of museums are worthy of a visit whatever the time of year!
We do have a few tips however. Spring is ideal to visit the Ligurian coast. In May, Genoa is the scene of a host of events, many of which revolve around food (basil, fish, wine).
In summer, when the weather is hot and dry, avoid August and the traffic jams caused by holidaymakers heading for the islands in the port area, and seek the refreshing cool of the shaded lanes of the old town.
In September, the water is delicious. If you are a boating enthusiast, an International Boat Fair takes place around mid-October, when the city also pays tribute to a local lad, Christopher Columbus!
Finally, up until the end of November, frequent rainy showers are conducive to indoor activities, as is the winter, when in pollution peaks cause thick fog.
