Crémone
The Essential
Recommended
Cremona is the birthplace of composer Claudio Monteverdi, and is also famous for its stringed-instrument makers, such as Andrea Amati, Andrea Guarneri and Antonio Stradivarius, who gained a reputation for their violins and cellos as early as the 16C. The tradition is still alive in the town today. The city's gastronomic heritage and good restaurants make Cremona, which is home to one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy, a pleasant halt between Milan and Parma.
