Church of Saint Ambrose (S. Ambrogio)

Highly recommended
A magnificent example of Lombard Romanesque style, this basilica was founded in the 4C by Saint Ambrose, inventor of the calendar and Milanese liturgy. It is preceded by a superb atrium. Two bell towers frame the facade, pierced with arches. Inside are a beautiful Romanesque-Byzantine ambo (pulpit), and an altar facing covered with gold plates, a masterpiece of the 9C. Beautiful 5C mosaics. The bodies of the martyrs Gervasio and Proteo are conserved in a silver shrine in the crypt.
