Church of Saint Ambrose (S. Ambrogio)

Highly recommended
A magnificent example of Lombard Romanesque style, this basilica was founded in the 4C by Saint Ambrose to house the bodies of two martyrs, Gervasio and Proteo (preserved in a silver shrine in the crypt). It is preceded by a superb atrium. Two bell towers frame the facade, which is pierced with arches. Inside, note the beautiful Byzantine-Romanesque ambo (pulpit), the gold-plated altar front (a masterpiece dating from the 9C), and the beautiful 5C mosaics.
