Chiavenna

Chiavenna
The Essential
Chiavenna is situated in the heart of a region of wild valleys. As its name suggests, it occupies a "key" (chiave) location in the Splügen and Maloja passes between Italy and Switzerland. Apart from the unusual frescoes which adorn the exterior of the Palazzo Pretorio and doorways in Via Dolzino, Chiavenna is known for its crotti, natural caves used to store cheese and wine and where local specialities are served.
