When to go
Food lovers ourselves, we could hardly do otherwise than recommend you discover Piedmont in early autumn, even though it is often rainy, because this is when the grapes are harvested. Surrounded by red and golden vineyards, take part in the harvest festivities in the villages of Langhe, but also of the white truffle in Alba. Slow food fans should not miss the Taste Fair in Turin in October.
Downhill and cross-country skiers will head for the Valle d’Aosta and Gran Paradiso range in winter. Hikers will prefer the waymarked paths in summer.
Turin and its famous museum can be visited all year long with an added bonus at the Christmas and New Year period when the Luci d’Artista, light installations designed by leading international designers, illuminate the city. Come summer, the stifling city is practically deserted.
