Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso

The Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso was created in 1922, and now covers an area of over 150 000 acres between Piedmont and the Valle d'Aosta, of which the highest point is at 4 061m (summit of the Gran Paradiso). The park is rich in wildlife and is an important reserve for endangered species such as the last remaining ibex in Europe and bearded vultures; it is also home to rare alpine flora such as edelweiss and larch. In winter, the park offers some superb cross-country skiing trails.
