Barletta Castle

Interesting
With its high stone walls and wide moat, this magnificent fortress is an imposing sight. Although the castle was built by the Normans in the 11C, it has been modified and strengthened on numerous occasions, with the present structure completed by Charles V in the 16C. The castle's superb vaulted rooms are home to the Museo Lapideo, while the first-floor Museo Civico houses a collection of paintings dating from the 15C to 20C. The spectacular basement blockhouses are also worth a visit.
