With its high stone walls and wide moat, this magnificent fortress is an imposing sight. Although the core of the building dates back to the Normans (11C), it has been modified and strengthened on numerous occasions, with the present structure completed by Charles V in the 16C. The superb vaulted rooms are home to the Museo Civico, which houses a collection of 15C-20C paintings. The spectacular basement blockhouses are also worth a visit, before you take in the clear view from the castle terrace.
