The Essential
Martis is still mainly a farming town: for a long time, it produced "fire-making stone" (flint) for the island. In the southeast of the town is San Pantaleo, which was built in the first quarter of the 14C and remodelled between the 16C and 19C. It sports a tripartite façade that has preserved the blind arcade of its gable, a two-coloured rose window and archivolts around the sturdy portal. A track leads to the petrified wood of Carrucana (45min return walk).
