Racalmuto
The Essential
This village north of Agrigento is where the great Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia (1921-89) was born and is buried. It is also home to the literary park dedicated to him. Racalmuto was, furthermore, for a long time a major sulphur extraction centre. Today it is the site of the ruins of the castle of the Chiaramonte, with its two sturdy towers.
