Caccamo

Caccamo
The Essential
Caccamo is a pretty little town built on a rocky precipice. It is thought to have been founded by the Phoenicians, but it was during the Norman period that it came into its own. This was when its castle, one of the best preserved in Sicily, served as a meeting place for the Sicilian barons in league against William I ("William the Bad"). In the 14C, the town became the domain of the Chiaramonte family, subsequently passing into the hands of other powerful Sicilian dynasties.
