Camarina
The Essential
Camarina was originally a Greek city founded by Syracuse. It was attacked many times by the Carthaginians and Romans, who finally destroyed it in 598 BC. Excavations have revealed the remains of a temple dedicated to Athena, parts of the decumanus (main street) with the agora and portico of the covered market, as well as a residential quarter dating from the Hellenistic period. Museum on site.
