Thapsos

An important civilisation developed in the middle of the Bronze Age on the Magnisi Peninsula, which is connected to terra firma by a narrow isthmus of sand. The discovery of Mycenaean pottery suggests that Thapsos was once a busy trading centre. The site houses remarkable vestiges of dwelling places. Cisterns and a water canal can still be seen. Further on is a necropolis that contains 450 collective tombs in small man-made caves.
