Trapani, formerly Drepanon, extends over a long, tongue-shaped peninsula ending in two points. The historic town, most of which was remodelled in the 18C, runs from the current Via Garibaldi to Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Beyond, towards the tip and the harbour area are the town's working-class districts. At Pescheria on the coast there is a picturesque fish market every morning, while the one-storey houses not far away are reminiscent of North Africa.
