Accademia Gallery

Highly recommended
The Accademia is remarkable for its collection of sculpture by Michelangelo: four slaves originally intended to embellish the tomb of Pope Julius II in Rome, a Pietà known as La Palestrina (an early work) and, in an apse built especially for the sculpture, the artist's magnificent David, created between 1501 and 1504, when Michelangelo was just 25 years old. The picture gallery has a collection of Tuscan paintings from the 13C to the 19C which complements the masterpieces exhibited in the Uffizi.
