Church of Santa Maria Novella

Recommended
Begun in 1279, Santa Maria Novella church, built by the Dominicans, was only completed in 1360. Dating from the middle of the 14C, the lower section of the façade has white and green marble geometric patterns. Leon Battista Alberti took over work on the church in 1458 and succeeded in harmoniously blending Gothic and Renaissance elements. Inside the church, the famous fresco of The Trinity by Masaccio is an important work in the history of painting.
