Settignano is an adorable Tuscan village, where, during the Renaissance, stonecutters worked with pietra serena, a grey stone that was used in most buildings at that time. This was the setting in which Michelangelo spent his early years. It was also here that Boccaccio set the young people of his Decameron. In the 19C, the beauty of the area certainly attracted Brits, who bought up many villas, which now stand more or less abandoned.
